In 2020, we had a Revive Sunday on the calendar. Partner organizations were ready to welcome Christ Church people into their buildings and onto their land to help bring new life into our community. It was scheduled just one week after COVID shut everything down. With a lot of hard work by our Revive Sunday planning team, we were able to rekindle a lot of those projects and have a successful Revive Sunday on October 17, 2021. (That was only an 18-month delay!)
One of teams went to revive the world at The Center. This ministry daily serves those who are homeless and underprivileged. They could see and hear about how this ministry center coordinates many groups to serve our community. They also put together 77 cold weather kits to be distributed to those in need. These kits contained two pairs of socks, a hat, and gloves in a pull-string backpack. Pennie, The Center Director, was delighted to get these kits and share about the ministry on top of Brady Street hill.
At King’s Harvest, our volunteers worked to clean the interior of the building and got lots of snuggles with some cute kitty cats. (Snuggling cats would be a great perk for cat-people!)
Café on Vine is an organization that ministers to vulnerable populations in Davenport—especially the homeless and those in need of meals in our community.
Humility Homes & Services also helps the homeless in our community, our parishioners helped with deep cleaning at their Jubilee center.
At One Eighty, we helped care for a new property cleaning brush, moving heavy items. This ministry serves people in our community impacted by crisis, poverty, and addiction. We were able to make a big impact in the cleaning and preparation for that new women’s home.
One group headed over to Pregnancy Resources and spent time caring for the facility they have that minister to pregnant women in our community. Our team there cleaned windows, baseboards, desks, and more.
A group stayed at the church to make cards for hospice workers and first responders. They made beautiful notes of encouragement and prayer.
Finally, the last group also stayed at the church and packaged meals for a partner organization: Kids Against Hunger. The meals packaged were slated to head to Louisiana for hurricane relief.
It was such a success with nearly 100 people serving, we look forward to doing this again in the spring!
