Lent is a hard time of year for me. It’s busy and bustling in the church world. So, usually, I stick with the tradition of old: giving up something to remember that Christ gave his life in my place. This year, I gave up going out to eat for lunch. Instead, I’m trying to pack a lunch each day or eat at home.
It’s a big commitment since my coworkers are very social and we tend to order out and eat together each day for lunch. So, it’s been pretty difficult to remain strong and not cave. Thankfully, God is right there on my side, giving me the strength to make it through.
This year, I made that commitment to myself and God on Ash Wednesday, during the Ash Wednesday service. I’d been struggling to think of what I would do to remind myself daily of Jesus’ sacrifice. In the midst of Pastor James’ message, it was like God spoke to me and told me exactly what the right thing to give up was.
So, this month, I’m out to lunch on going out to lunch. (See what I did there?!) What are you doing to rely more on God or remind yourself of the sacrifice of Jesus?
